Just roll with it

Rolling a good, old-fashioned "j" is truly a lost art. It is one of the most iconic ways to consume your cannabis, and it’s a great way to enjoy the flavour of your flower. There are countless ways to roll, but whatever you do, make sure your creation burns smoothly and evenly.

Here's a seven-step guide to doing it the "old-school" way.

Step 1: Break or grind down your cannabis

Break or grind down your cannabis into ground herb or "shake". A grinder prevents your hands from getting sticky and later sticking to your joint paper. If you don't have a grinder, scissors also work really well.

Step 2: Create a joint filter

A joint filter helps keep your ground herb inside and prevents it from falling into your mouth as you smoke. It also ensures some stability in your joint. You can use any form of thin cardboard to create it. Often your rolling paper pack will include joint filters. Begin by creating a few zig-zag folds at the beginning of your card and then roll it according to how thick you would like your joint.

Step 3: Fill your joint

Fill the paper with your ground up herb and add in your filter. Once your paper has the right amount of "shake" (0.5g - 1g), begin to shape it using your fingers.

Step 4: Pack your joint

Once you have filled and shaped your joint, it's time to roll. Pinch your joint paper between your fingertips and roll it back and forth to pack the cannabis down into its final cone shape.

Step 5: Roll your joint

Starting at the filter side, tuck the unglued side of the paper into the roll, roll it up and use the glued edge to seal down one end of the paper, using just a little bit of moisture. Continue along the seam with the same process. Lick the top edge and seal with the final roll, leaving empty space at the tip.

Step 7: Light up and enjoy!
